Missing UPS uniforms, the new Medicare drug card,
and health insurance scams increasing:
Internet ScamBusters #78
In today's issue, we've got the real scoop on an email that's making the rounds in a big way about UPS uniforms and terrorists, an update on Medicare discount cards that went into effect yesterday, and some news on health insurance scams. So let's get going...
Are UPS Uniforms Being Bought by Terrorists?
Missing UPS Uniforms
A group of insidious emails that have been making the rounds since June of 2003 -- and have been unusually pervasive recently -- claim that several thousand dollars worth (or a huge shipment of) UPS uniforms are 'missing' or have been purchased on eBay by an unknown buyer. Click here for more on the missing UPS uniforms.
The New Medicare Drug Card
We've gotten a lot of questions about the new Medicare drug card that is now available and which we first mentioned in Issue #75. We've created a special page about this new Medicare drug card.
This page explains how to select the right Medicare discount card for you, including tips for selecting the best card. This is important since you won't be able to change your mind once you've chosen a particular card.
Health Insurance Scams Increasing
We hear that there are more scammers trying to sell you fake health insurance.
How can you tell if a particular health insurance offer is a scam? Here are four things to watch out for:
- Willingness to cover preexisting conditions that other companies won't cover.
- Significantly lower premiums than other companies.
- A company name that is very close to a well-known insurance company.
- Companies that claim they do not need to be regulated by the state regulation agencies.
If in doubt, check with your state insurance department before buying.
That's it for now. Have a great week!
